The throttle plate shaft is connected to a small motor and spring that responds to inputs from the computer. At idle, the computer commands the throttle plate to crack open slightly, much like the old carburetors. This feature eliminates the need for an idle air bypass valve. When the engine is off, the throttle plate is fully closed.

The drive by wire idea sounds too risky for a home job. What is the general feelings regarding the fly by wire (or whatever its called) throttle that Harley has changed to. I don't have it and I don't like the sound of it. Hearing stories with folks having problems changing handle bars and functional glitches in general. Solution: The solution is simple.
